Your travel to Assisi

All roads lead to Assisi!
The province of Umbria is situated exactly in the middle of Italy. Perugia (25 km/15 mi from Assisi) is its capital.
Distance from both Rome and Florence to our center near Assisi is 200 km/125 mi.
We suggest flying to Rome, but other airports (mostly Ryanair: Florence, Pisa, Ancona, Perugia can be used too).

Arrival
Best to book a flight to Rome with arrival latest 14:00 so you have time arrive here for dinner.

Departure
Try to fix departure from Rome airport earliest at 11:00.
If departure earlier in the morning, we recommend to leave from Assisi the evening before and to stay in Rome.

Contact Us before booking your flight so we can assist you in choosing the most convenient transportation from & to the airports.

Rome has two airports:
Rome Airport Fiumicino FCO, from there you can
• travel by bus from the airport straight to Perugia, where we pick you up.
• travel by train to Rome Central Station Termini, whereafter the train to Assisi, where we pick you up.

Rome Airport Ciampino CIA,
from there you can
• travel by train to Rome Central Station Termini, whereafter the train to Assisi, where we pick you up.

Travel time from any of the airports to our center: approx. 4 hours.

After you have picked up your luggage, walk through the customs exit and enter one of the arrival halls (T1, T2 or T3).

Then follow the train signs to the train station (5 minutes walk).

First you take the ”Leonardo Da Vinci Airport Express” train straight to Roma Termini. Departure every 15 minutes. The journey takes 35 minutes. The ticket costs 14 € and can be bought in a self service ticketing machine and paid with credit card.

Do not buy the ticket for the whole journey to Assisi, as the self service ticketing machine will propose you another directory via Rome station Tiburtina, which is less comfortable.

If you have time enough before the scheduled train departure you can buy your ticket at the service counter, then you can ask for a ticket to Assisi via Termini.

Please note: Tickets bought in a self service ticketing machine are valid for 2 months, so it is important to devalidate it in one of the validation machines on the platform before entering the train. It is not possible to do so on the train. Be sure you hear a ”click” and check the printed date.

It´s possible to buy in advance your ticket for your train journey, but if your flight would be delayed, your train ticket would no longer be valid.

After you have registered for your retreat we will assist you in finding out which trains are going from Rome to Assisi on your travel day.

Please note: Every train trip has a specific number (as shown in the green area in the picture). So once you are at the station and look at the departure board it is not important to look at the end station – but rather to find the right train number.

Some of the trains go all the way to Assisi, others would require a change in Foligno (orange area in the picture). In that case we will wait for you at Foligno station. But do buy a ticket to Assisi, same price, just in case.

The ticket costs 10 or 20€ (it depends if it´s a Regional or Intercity train) and can be bought in one of the many self service ticketing machines and paid with credit card.

Roma Termini is a fine place to wait – we suggest the big hall first floor´s cafe/restaurant area.

Please note: If the train to Assisi/Foligno leaves from platform 1 or 2 EST – you´ll have to walk to the end of platform 1 which takes approx. 500 meter / 10-12 minutes.
